Creatinine is a waste product produced by muscles, and it will be excreted by kidney. Once kidney is damaged, the glomerular filtration rate will decline, which is unable to excrete creatinine and other toxins, so the kidney function becomes worse and worse and finally Renal Failure or Uremia appear. We must take actions to lower creatinine to stop further kidney damage.
The normal level of creatinine is usually 60 to 110 micromoles per litre but the exact figures can vary from lab to lab.
Then we will talk about diet for Kidney Failure patients as follows:
1. Control intake of protein reasonably
Under the premise of meet basic requirements of patients' body, patients should try to reduce intake of protein so as to reduce the kidney burden. According to the research, the proper intake of protein for Chronic Renal Failure patients is 0.5-0.6g/kg of body weight per day. Generally speaking, 250g of milk, one egg and 50g of lean meat is necessary for Chronic Renal Failure patients each day. High protein diet can lead to a rise in urea nitrogen level. But inadequate intake of protein will cause malnutrition and may lead to a rise in creatinine level.
2. Pay attention to low salt diet
Chronic Renal Failure patients should keep low salt diet. Salt itself has no damage to the kidneys. But if patients eat much salt, they will drink more water accordingly, which can increase blood volume, aggravate edema, high blood pressure and hear load. So it is not good for the patients' illness. So patients having edema and high blood pressure should pay attention to low salt diet. Especially patients having symptom of edema had better eat 3g of salt each day.
3. Eat high potassium food carefully
High blood potassium level can restrain heartbeat and even can lead to cardiac arrest. Patients take potassium mainly through food. Potassium is excreted by kidney. If renal function declines, the kidney will excrete less of potassium, which will lead to a rise in blood potassium level. So Chronic Renal Failure patients should not eat high potassium food, such as banana, orange, monosodium glutamate, soy sauce, potato, tuber mustard, mushroom, agaric, nori, jujube, almond, ham, scallop, dried sea shrimp, etc.
4. Not eat high purine food
High purine food can reduce the excretion of uric acid. So Chronic Renal Failure patients should not eat high purine food such as animal offal, seafood, spinach, mushroom, etc. Patients should not drink beer.
5. Not eat stimulating and spicy food
Chronic Renal Failure patients should not eat stimulating and spicy food such as chillies, pepper, wild pepper, curry, garlicsprouts, caraway, etc. These food can cause a rise of blood pressure and throat inflammation easily. These food can also lead to allergy.
6. Use various health care products carefully
Kidney Failure is not renal deficiency called in Chinese medicine. So patients can not use kidney tonic to treat Chronic Renal Failure. Patients should stay at a respectful distance from various health care products and tonics on the market.
